India's Omicron Tally At 3,623 As Maharashtra Surpasses 1000-Mark For Variant | State Wise List

The Omicron variant has been registered in 27 States/UTs of India so far with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases

New Delhi: India has recorded a massive surge in Coronavirus cases as the country has reported 1.5 lakh daily spike in infections on Sunday. India has reported  1,59,632 fresh COVID cases, 40,863 recoveries, and 327 deaths in the last 24 hours.

With the continuous surge in the Omicron case, the country's total tally of the highly transmissible variant is now at 3,623. The variant has been registered in 27 States/UTs of India so far with Maharashtra recording the highest number of cases. The number of persons recovered after testing Omicron positive is 1,409.

Daily positivity rate: 10.21%

Active cases: 5,90,611

Total recoveries: 3,44,53,603

Death toll: 4,83,790

Total vaccination: 151.58 crore doses

Maharashtra

Maharashtra on Saturday reported 133 new infections of the Omicron variant of coronavirus which took the total of such cases in the state to 1,009, health officials said.

As many as 439 patients have been discharged after recovery in the state to date. Of 133 new cases, reports of 130 infections were received from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, while three reports were received from labs in Gujarat, officials said.

Of new cases of the Omicron variant, 118 were reported from Pune city, eight from neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad, three from Pune rural, two from Vasai-Virar and one each from Ahmednagar and Mumbai.

Mumbai has reported the highest 566 Omicron cases in the state so far, followed by 201 in Pune city.

Kerala

 Kerala reported 23 more cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus on Saturday, taking the tally to 328, State Health Minister Veena George said.

The Minister said 16 persons reached the state from low-risk countries, while four from high-risk nations.

Two persons in Kollam infected with the new strain reached the state from Tamil Nadu, while a 23-year-old woman from Thiruvananthapuram contracted the new variant from her contact, the minister said in a release.

Today's cases include 11 persons who arrived from the UAE and two each from France and Qatar, respectively.

Until now, 225 Omicron-affected persons reached the state from low-risk countries, while 68 from high-risk nations.

Thirty-three of the total 328 affected in the state contracted the new variant through their contacts, the release said, adding that two persons reached from other states.
