India Records Marginal Rise In Covid Cases; Records 2.11 Lakh New Infections, 3,847 Deaths In 24 Hours

India's daily Covid death toll has been around 4000 which is worrisome for citizens and the government. However, The daily cases have been witnessing a downward trend.

Covid In India: The country has reported a marginal rise in daily Coronavirus cases today.

India reports 2,11,298 new COVID19 cases, 2,83,135 discharges & 3,847 deaths in last 24 hrs, as per Health Ministry.

Total cases: 2,73,69,093

Total discharges: 2,46,33,951

Death toll: 3,15,235

Active cases: 24,19,907

Total vaccination: 20,26,95,874

The Health Ministry said that active caseload further declines to 24,19,907 after active cases decrease by 75,684 in last 24 hours.

Recovery rate increases to 90.01%. The weekly positivity rate is currently at 10.93%, daily positivity rate at 9.79%, less than 10% for 3 consecutive days. 

The number of deaths has hovered near the 4,000-mark for the past several days, leading to concerns among experts and government officials.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 33,69,69,352 samples have been tested up to May 26 with 21,57,857 samples tested yesterday. 

Mumbai reported 34 fresh fatalities due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, the lowest single-day death count after April 13, while the caseload crossed the 7-lakh mark with the addition of 1,362 new infections, the city civic body said.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s updated data, the tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 7,01,266 with the addition of 1,362 cases in the last 24 hours, while the death toll jumped to 14,742 after 34 more patients succumbed to the infection. On April 13, Mumbai had reported 26 fatalities.

Meanwhile, the number of fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours are 1,491 in Delhi, 2,378 in Kolkata, 6,433 in Bengaluru and 3,561 in Chennai. 

Several states have extended ongoing curbs in a bid to keep the Covid-19 infection from spreading. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Goa have re-imposed curfew-like restrictions after active coronavirus cases showed a decline.
