India Reports 5,784 Covid-19 Cases In Last 24 Hours, Daily Surge Lowest In 571 Days

Total number of Covid-19 cases with the Omicron variant in India has reached to 41.

New Delhi:  India logged 5,784 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 571 days. While 7,995 people recovered from the infection, 252 people lost their lives to the virus. The active caseload stood at 88,993 which was lowest in 563 days. Active cases were at 0.26% which accounted for less than 1% of the total cases. Whereas the recovery rate was at 98.37%.  

Total number of testing carried out during the previous day was 9,90,482 according to the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare 

The vaccination tally of the country increased by 66,98,601 in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative vaccination tally to 1,33,88,12,577. 

Daily positivity rate at 0.58% which remained less than 2% for the last 71 days, while the weekly positivity rate was at 0.68% which was less than 1% for the last 30 days.  

The 252 new fatalities include 203 from Kerala and 12 from Tamil Nadu.

Of the 203 deaths in Kerala, 38 were recorded over the last few days and 165 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, a Kerala state government release said on Monday.

A total of 4,75,888 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 1,41,264 from Maharashtra, 43,170 from Kerala, 38,268 from Karnataka, 36,624 from Tamil Nadu, 25,100 from Delhi, 22,914 from Uttar Pradesh and 19,610 from West Bengal.

The ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

The total number of Covid-19 cases with the Omicron variant in India has reached 41, as reported by PTI. Maharashtra reported 20 cases of Covid-19 with Omicron variant whereas 9 in Rajasthan, 3 in Karnataka, 4 in Gujarat, 1 in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Chandigarh, and 2 in Delhi. Among the new cases, two cases were reported from Maharashtra and one case from Gujarat. The two people who tested positive in Maharashtra had travelled from Dubai whereas the person found positive in Gujarat was a returnee from South Africa.

At the global level, the World Health Organisation noted that Covid-19 cases with Omicron variant had been reported by 63 countries as of December 9. First death by the new mutation of the virus was reported from the United Kingdom, reported BBC.
