Blackout Orders In Gurdaspur Amid Cross-Border Activity Post Operation Sindoor
Gurdaspur District Administration has ordered a complete blackout in the district from 9:00 pm on 8th May to 5:00 am on May 9.

The Gurdaspur District Administration in Punjab ordered a complete blackout from 9 pm on 8 May to 5 am on 9 May, citing security concerns after a series of drone and missile incursions from across the border, ANI has reported.

According to the Ministry of Defence, on the night of May 7–8, following Operation Sindoor, Pakistan launched drones and missiles at military installations in northern and western India. Targets included facilities at Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. All incoming threats were successfully blocked and neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter‑UAS Grid and air defence systems.

Indian Counter‑Strikes
In the early hours of May 9, the Indian Armed Forces struck back, targeting Pakistani air defence radars and associated systems at multiple locations. Reports confirm that an air defence installation near Lahore was knocked out.
India has reiterated its commitment to non‑escalation, provided Pakistan reciprocates.

During yesterday’s press briefing on Operation Sindoor, officials emphasised that India’s actions were “focused, measured and non‑escalatory,” and that no Pakistani military installations had been targeted. It was also said that any attack on Indian military assets would be met with a proportionate response.
Continued Shelling Along LoC
Meanwhile, Pakistan intensified mortar and heavy‑calibre artillery fire across the Line of Control (LoC) in sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. Sixteen civilians—among them three women and five children—lost their lives. Indian forces responded to halt the shelling and protect border communities.
