Chhattisgarh: IED Blast In Sukma Injures Cop, Second Such Incident This Week

The incident happened when security personnel were carrying out combing operations to locate and neutralise IEDs planted by Naxalites in Saletong.

A District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel suffered injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites exploded on Tuesday in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, PTI reported. This was the second explosion to take place this week near Saletong village under the jurisdiction of Kistaram police station.

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing infrastructure and development, a newly established camp of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was set up in Saletong, which sees frequent Naxal activity.

Established along the vital Chintalnar-Kistaram route, the camp was set up to facilitate road construction efforts and conducting  counter-insurgency operations in the region.

Before the camp was set up, joint security teams engaged in extensive combing operations to locate and neutralise IEDs planted by Naxalites in the vicinity. During one such operation on Tuesday morning, DRG jawan Joga encountered a pressure IED, resulting in a detonation that caused injuries.

The injured jawan was swiftly shifted to a hospital for treatment. A search operation for Naxals has been launched in the area.

On Monday, two jawans, part of a joint team of security personnel, were injured when an IED exploded in the same area in Sukma district.

The team comprised personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force's 217th battalion, the 208th battalion of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite CRPF unit, and district forces.

The security team was on patrol to provide security to the road construction work in Saltong village. When the team was cordoning off the area near Saltong, two personnel came in contact with the IED, leading to the blast, PTI reported quoting an official.

Immediate preliminary treatment was administered to the injured personnel and they were subsequently shifted to a hospital for further medical care.
