Bypolls 2022: Results In Four States Today, All Focus On TMC Ruled Bengal
The TMC has fielded actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha from the Asansol Lok Sabha seat while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Agnimitra Paul from the constituency.
New Delhi: The votes will be counted on Saturday for the recently concluded by-elections in West Bengal’s Asansol Lok Sabha seat and the assembly seats in the state’s Ballygunge, Khairagarh in Chhattisgarh, Bochahan in Bihar and Kolhapur North in Maharashtra.
All eyes are set on the Bengal by-polls as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has fielded two stars on the seats.
The TMC has fielded actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha from the Asansol Lok Sabha seat while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Agnimitra Paul from the constituency.
The Asansol seat fell vacant after sitting MP Babul Supriyo resigned from the Lok Sabha earlier in October last year following differences with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre.
The singer-turned politician, who later joined the TMC, has been fielded from the Ballygunge assembly seat.
Supriyo has expressed confidence of emerging victorious from the Ballygunge assembly seat.
“The 41% voters’ turnout here rubbishes the Opposition’s unnecessary claim of false voting. Had that been the case, would turnout have been this? WB is with Didi, TMC,” ANI quoted Supriyo as saying.
The Ballygunge Assembly seat by-poll was necessitated after state minister Subrata Mukherjee’s death. The BJP has fielded Keya Ghosh from this seat while Saira Shah Halim is the CPI (M) candidate.
The by-polls in the Khairagarh Assembly constituency in Chhattisgarh was necessitated post the death of Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) MLA Devwrat Singh in November last year.
The Bochahan assembly seat in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district fell vacant after the demise of MLA Musafir Paswan, who had won on the ticket of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) of Bollywood set designer-turned-politician Mukesh Sahani.
There were 15 candidates in the fray in the Kolhapur North assembly constituency of Maharashtra. However, the main contest is expected to be between Congress, one of the constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state, and the BJP.
