'Builds Himself A Sheesh Mahal But Fails To Provide Free Electricity': Smriti Irani Lashes Out At Kejriwal In Delhi

Smriti Irani made the remarks while addressing a public meeting in New Delhi to mark the completion of nine years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.

New Delhi: Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for failing to provide drinking water and free electricity to the people in the national capital. “Shame on such a Chief Minister who builds himself a 'Sheesh Mahal' worth over Rs 40 crore, but fails to provide drinking water and free electricity to the people,” news agency PTI quoted Irani as saying.

Taking potshots at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor, Smriti Irani said if Kejriwal really cares for the people of Delhi then why is he not accepting the Centre’s 'Ayushman Bharat' scheme.

Smriti Irani made the remarks while addressing a public meeting in New Delhi to mark the completion of nine years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. The meeting was organised in West Delhi's Uttam Nagar and was attended by Delhi BJP president Virender Sachdev, MP Parvesh Sahib Singh and other leaders.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on the BJP government remarking that "illiterate people" are running the government at the Centre and requested voters not to elect those with 'fake degrees' next time.

"How can we trust your talk? They (Centre) are telling lies. They do not know anything. Today, illiterate people are running the government at the Centre. If there were literate people in the central government, they would not have brought demonetisation and farm laws. When you vote for the next time, do one thing, vote for literate people. Do not vote for those who are illiterate and have fake degrees,” PTI quoted Kejriwal as saying.

The Delhi CM also took a dig at his Rajasthan counterpart Ashok Gehlot and even blamed the ruling Congress party for trying to ruin AAP’s rallies.

"When we were coming here, we saw Gehlot Saheb has put up his posters all over Ganganagar and around this stadium. I want to tell him that if he had worked for the last 5 years, he would not have to do this. 15-20 people came here and they were throwing chairs, all this is an act of cowards. You (CM Gehlot) did not work for 5 years and this is the reason you are trying to ruin AAP rallies," he added.
