Delhi's First Covid Facility With Built In Oxygen Plant At Commonwealth Games Village

New Delhi: The national capital now has its first ever Covid care center with a an Oxygen plant at Commonwealth Games village Sports complex. Amid the oxygen shortages due to the surge in Covid cases, the Covid facility comes as a relief. 

This oxygen plant can supply oxygen to 18-20 patients simultaneously.

The Clinical Manager, Dr Anurag Mishra at the COVID care centre, told ANI that to overcome the shortage of medical oxygen, oxygen plant has been set up at the COVID care centre itself. He further urged hospitals to set up their own plants to overcome oxygen shortages.

"The shortage of medical oxygen in Delhi is due to the supply chain of the oxygen cylinders. Setting up our own oxygen plant is a great move," he was quoted as saying.

"The plant has been donated by the HCL foundation. We are thankful to them as we no longer depend on a supply chain," he added.

On Saturday, 12 Covid-19 patients, including a senior doctor, had died at Delhi's Batra Hospital after the facility ran out of medical oxygen. Delhi is not the only place where hospitals are facing Oxygen shortages. On Monday, 24 patients including COVID-19 patients, died at Chamarajanagar District Hospital in Karnataka due to oxygen shortage among others reasons. 

India reported a slight dip as the country lodged 3,57,229 new Covid cases in past 24 hours. As per the Union Health ministry, 3,449 people succumbed to the deadly disease yesterday while 3,20,289 recovered and discharged. 

Delhi's lockdown was extended it is now in place till May 10th.
