The proceedings of both the Houses resumed at 2 pm but shortly after were adjourned till tomorrow as BJP demanded apology from Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition demanded the JPC on Adani issue
New Delhi: The third day of Parliament’s Budget Session ended with adjournment amid uproar and ruckus by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Opposition over Rahul Gandhi’s apology and constitution of Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe Adani issue respectively.
Shortly after the proceedings started, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm amid commotion by the Opposition demanding JPC on the Adani issue. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi who returned to India today was expected to attend the Parliament but remained absent.
The Opposition tried to take out a protest march to ED office but police barred them from moving forward after which the MPs returned.
Here are the top points from day 3 of Parliament’s Budget Session:
- Opposition parties met earlier in the day at Leader of Opposition Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge’s Parliament chamber to discuss next steps to be taken over the Adani issue.
- Trinamool Congress distanced itself from the protest led by Congress saying they would not be participating in any of the other protests and that it has its own issues and agenda in the Parliament.
- "In our state (Bengal), the Congress is totally in connivance with BJP and CPM so we cannot join hands with meetings called by Congress leaders," said TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay. "It is most unfortunate that the Parliament is not succeeding to commence its session. Whether the ruling party or the main opp party, both are at loggerheads with each other" he added.
- The Opposition, which included 16 parties except TMC and NCP, announced a protest march from Parliament till the Enforcement Directorate office to submit a complaint against the Adani group.
- The leaders from Opposition parties, headed by Kharge, took to the road at 12:30 pm for the protest march but were barred from moving ahead by the police after which the MPs went back.
- Kharge alleged relation between PM Modi and Gautam Adani and said their “relation should be probed.”
- The proceedings in both the Houses resumed at 2 pm but shortly after were adjourned till tomorrow as BJP demanded apology from Rahul Gandhi for his democracy remark at the Cambridge University and the Opposition demanded the JPC to probe into Adani issue.
