BKU Leader Along With Protesting Farmers Meet Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar To Discuss Agitation Related Issues

In a statement, SKM said farmers are patiently waiting for positive response from their government on their legitimate demands

New Delhi: Leader of Bharatiya Kisan Union, along with some protesting farmers met Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at his residence in Chandigarh to discuss issues related to the farmers' agitation.

BKU leader Gurnam Singh Chadhuni said, "The Chief Minister has called us over for a meeting to discuss more on the cases registered against farmers during the demonstration and also talk on compensation to the families of those who were killed in the agitation."

Earlier on Thursday, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) stated that the "standoff" between farmers and the government is ongoing as the Centre is forcing them to restrict them to the demonstration sites and is not communicating with them over their pending demands.

In a statement, SKM said farmers are patiently waiting for positive response from their government on their legitimate demands, including legal guarantees for compensation at minimum support price (MSP) for crops along with compensation for farmers killed during the protests.

According to them, the stalemate with the Government of India has forced the Kisan Morcha to remain at the demonstration site and no official communication has been received so far in regards to acceptance of their pending demands.

They said all the permanent protest sites have been set up at dozens of toll plazas and other places. The SKM also said that the President of India has given his approval to the Bill repealing agricultural laws passed by both houses of Parliament and a gazette notification has been issued in this regard.

SKM representatives said, "With this repeal, an important battle has formally ended. The protesting farmers won their first major victory against their elected government."
