BJP's Stance On Uniform Civil Code Can Be Taken As Centre's View: Kiren Rijiju To Lok Sabha

"About Uniform Civil Code, you know what our government's thinking is on it. We want that what is out party's ideology should be taken as the country's ideology," Rijiju said.

The BJP's position on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is clear, according to Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, who said on Tuesday that it should be regarded as the government's position as well, news agency PTI reported.

The BJP and its leaders have previously backed the adoption of UCC in the county, which would replace individual laws based on scriptures and customs of diverse religious communities with a set of laws that apply to all citizens.

A bill granting Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland's family courts statutory protection was approved by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. According to Rijiju, he would ask all state governments to establish one family in each district.

Rijiju spoke in response to discussion on the Family Courts Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha: "About Uniform Civil Code, you know what our government's thinking is on it. We want that what is out party's ideology should be taken as the country's ideology," he declared, prompting jeers from the benches of the opposition.

Rijiju reiterated his position, saying, "It's only a party that forms a government."

The BSP MP Kunwar Danish Ali asked that the minister's comments be taken back and claimed that no political party's philosophy should be referred to as the nation's ideology.

Rijiju stated that no decision has been made yet about the implementation of a UCC because the subject is still under appeal in a written response to a question asked in the Lok Sabha last week.

He said that the Supreme Court is now hearing a few writ petitions related to the matter.
