Rajasthan BJP MLA Kiran Maheshwari Passes Away Due To Covid-19; PM Modi, CM Gehlot, Others Condole Demise

Many well-known politicians and leaders such as former President of India Pranab Mukherjee, senior Congress Leaders Ahmed Patel, Tarun Gogoi lost lives due to Covid-19 or related complications.

Covid-19 Deaths: India lost another politician to Covid-19 on Monday as BJP leader and Rajasthan’s Rajsamand MLA Kiran Maheshwari breathed her last in hospital. BJP leader had tested positive for Covid-19 and was undergoing treatment at Medanta hospital in Haryana’s Gurgram.  As per reports, Maheshwari had been infected with the virus during October’s municipal corporation elections. She was one of the two election in-charges of the BJP for the Kota North Municipal Corporation (KNMC), while Churu MLA Rajendra Rathore was the other in-charge. Maheshwari was also a member of the 14th Lok Sabha from 2004-2009 from Rajasthan’s Udaipur constituency. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief on the demise of the BJP leader. He tweeted: " Pained by the untimely demise of Kiran Maheshwari Ji. Be it as MP, MLA or Cabinet Minister in the Rajasthan Government, she made numerous efforts to work towards the progress of the state and empower the poor as well as marginalised. Condolences to her family. Om Shanti."

On her demise, Lok Sabha speaker On Birla, who is an MP from Kota, said it was a personal loss for him. “The death of Rajsamand MLA Kiran Maheshwari is extremely distressing. She devoted her entire life to serving the society. Her death is a personal loss to me. May her soul rest in peace. My condolences are with her family.” He said he worked with her politically and socially for a long time. “ She was a strong voice for social issues, especially the rights of women and deprived classes and will always be remembered for her courage and clarity,” Birla said in a tweet.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also condoled her demise and tweeted: “Saddened to know of the untimely demise of BJP leader & Rajsamand MLA Kiran Maheshwari ji. My heartfelt condolences to her family members & supporters in this most difficult time. May God give them strength to bear this loss. May her soul rest in peace," Gehlot tweeted.
