BJP Makes Union Ministers In-Charge For Rajya Sabha Elections In 4 States

The saffron party has fielded three candidates from Maharashtra, while the ruling Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP alliance has fielded four.

New Delhi: Ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls, the BJP appointed Union Ministers as its in-charge in four states on Wednesday, news agency PTI reported. The party appointed Narendra Singh Tomar as the in-charge for Rajasthan, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for Haryana, Ashwini Vaishnaw for Maharashtra and G Kishan Reddy for Karnataka. While Rajasthan and Haryana are headed for a keen contest with the entry of independents backed by the party and its allies, Maharashtra and Karnataka are set to witness a contest of candidates more than the number of seats at stake.

According to the report, banking on the discontent within the Congress over its choice of ‘outsider’ candidates, BJP is in support of media baron Subhash Chandra in Rajasthan. In Haryana, its ally JJP has extended support to Kartikeya Sharma, son of influential politician Venod Sharma.

The saffron party has fielded three candidates from Maharashtra, while the ruling Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP alliance has fielded four.

In Karnataka, all three political parties in the state - BJP has fielded 3 candidates, Congress fielded 2, and JD(S) has fielded one candidate, forcing an election.

It is to be noted that the saffron party on Wednesday has named its in-charges for assembly bypolls to four seats in Tripura.

As per the report, its national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, Assam government minister Ashok Singhal and Jayanta Malla Baruah, political secretary to Assam chief minister, will lead the BJP campaign for the bypolls to be held on June 23.

Rajya Sabha polls will be held for four seats in Rajasthan, six in Maharashtra, four in Karnataka, and two in Haryana on June 10.
