Bitcoin scam case: Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra questioned by ED in Mumbai

Banned for life from cricket activities, former Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra had earlier this year filed a petition in the Supreme Court after Delhi Police gave him a clean chit in the Indian Premier League betting scandal.

New Delhi: Businessman & actor Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra was summoned by Enforcement Directorate in connection with Bitcoin scam. While publishing of this report, he was being questioned by the law enforcement sleuths in Mumbai.  Reports say Kundra’s name cropped up during investigation of fraudster Amit Bharadwaj who ran a website named www.gainbitcoin.com which duped thousands of investors to the tune of Rs 2,000 cr. He operated the the cryptocurrency fraud business in Mumbai, Pune and Kolhapur. During Bharadwaj’s questioning, he divulged the names of number of celebrities who had invested in bitcoin and were promoting the virtual currency in India. The government last year said virtual currencies like Bitcoin have no "intrinsic value". It compared them with the notorious Ponzi schemes floated to dupe gullible investors. (Watch our news report below) ED is now trying to ascertain whether Kundra had any role in promoting bitcoin and to what capacity he had invested. ICC chief N Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was also banished from taking part in any type of BCCI-related cricket activities for life.
