Bihar: Woman Inspector, Cops Thrashed During Raid In Patna By Mining Mafia

A woman mining officer was thrashed by members of alleged sand mafia in Bihar's Patna. She had to be hospitalised for her injuries.

A video of a woman mining inspector being dragged and thrashed by miscreants in Bihta, Patna, has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred during a sand truck overloading check on Monday when the sand mafia attacked the police team with bricks and stones. While several police personnel fled the scene, the inspector was surrounded and beaten up. Multiple police officers were injured in the incident. Patna SSP Rajeev Mishra confirmed the incident and said that they had begun action. Three FIRs have been registered and 44 people arrested so far.

Raids were conducted against overloaded vehicles and illegal mining in the Bihta Block of Bihar. The district mining officer, the district transport officer, the additional sub-divisional magistrate, and the Danapur Police Station in-charge were leading the operation. However, miscreants attacked the team with stones near the Koilwar bridge, injuring two mining inspectors, including the district mining officer. The viral video shows her being dragged and then pushed to the ground. She is then kicked by members of the alleged sand mafia cartel. They were later admitted to a hospital for treatment.

After being informed of the incident, the district magistrate of Patna dispatched a sub-divisional administrative officer, sub-divisional police officer, and cops from the Danapur Police Station to the site. Raids are now being conducted against those involved in the stone-pelting. Around 50 vehicles have been seized. The vehicle owners and drivers are also being investigated. The Superintendent of Police West, Sub-Divisional Officer, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer are currently working at the scene in Bihta. The District Magistrate has promised action against all those involved in the incident.

Last year, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) investigating illegal stone mining in Haryana's Nuh district was crushed to death by the mining mafia. Tauru DSP Surendra Singh had signalled a dumper-truck to halt to check documents. However, the driver ran over him even as the DSP's gunman and his driver jumped aside to safety.
