Bengaluru Woman Questioned In Bhovi Scam Case Dies By Suicide
The deceased, identified as Jeeva from Padmanabhanagar, was an advocate and a key figure in a case involving alleged misappropriation of funds meant for a job scheme for the Bhovi community.
Bengaluru news: A 33-year-old woman, allegedly suspected in a scam under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), died by suicide at her residence in Banashankari on Friday, police said.
The deceased, identified as Jeeva from Padmanabhanagar, was an advocate and a key figure in a case involving alleged misappropriation of funds meant for a job scheme for the Bhovi community. In her 11-page suicide note, Jeeva accused a CID deputy superintendent of police (DySP) of harassment, prompting authorities to register a case of abetment to suicide against the officer, as reported by PTI.
Police stated that Jeeva ended her life between 5 am and 9 am, and her body was discovered by her sister around 10 am. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan using a saree. Her sister also discovered the suicide note and immediately alerted the police.
According to the note, Jeeva had returned from a CID inquiry on Thursday before taking the extreme step.
The investigation relates to a scam from 2021-22, where bureaucrats and middlemen allegedly embezzled significant portions of loans under a job scheme intended for Bhovi community members, reported New Indian Express. Jeeva’s alleged involvement surfaced when funds were reportedly transferred to her bank account from the corporation's accounts.
The case includes three FIRs initially registered in Siddapura, Doddaballapur, and Kalagi (Kalaburagi) police stations, which were later handed over to the CID in 2023.
A case of abetment to suicide has been filed at the Banashankari police station. Police confirmed they have launched a detailed probe into both the circumstances of Jeeva's death and the allegations in her note.
