Bangladeshi Author Taslima Nasreen Condemns Violence Saying ‘If Prophet Was Alive…’

Nasreen’s comments came after protests against former BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma in various states resulted in violence injuring many on Friday.

Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen took to Twitter late Friday night saying if Prophet was alive, he would have been shocked at the “madness of Muslim fanatics around the world.”

Nasreen’s comments came after protests against former BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma in various states resulted in violence injuring many on Friday.

Nasreen wrote on Twitter, “Even if prophet Muhammad was alive today, he would have been shocked to see the madness of the Muslim fanatics around the world.”

Condemning the violence that took place, she wrote in another tweet, “No one is above criticism, no human, no saint, no messiah, no prophet, no god. Critical scrutiny is necessary to make the world a better place.”

On June 10, many states witnessed protests after the Friday prayers which resulted in violence in many areas. In Ranchi, two died and several were injured during the clashes between the protestors and security personnel.

Meanwhile, internet services have been snapped in Ranchi in Jharkhand, and in Howrah in West Bengal. Incidents of stone-pelting were also reported from several areas of Uttar Pradesh.

The protest also took place outside Delhi’s Jama Masjid, but it was later controlled as police dispersed the crowd.

On the other hand, a curfew was also imposed in Jammu's Baderwah and Kishwar region as a precautionary method along with internet services suspended.

The row on Prophet Muhammad began when Nupur Sharma made derogatory remarks about the Prophet during a TV debate on Gyanvapi Mosque

The issue blew into an international controversy as many Gulf nations registered their protest against the comments. In order to resolve the situation, the Indian government issued a statement saying that such comments are made by “fringe” elements and do not represent the views of the country. A similar statement was issued on Thursday reiterating the same.

Nupur Sharma was suspended from the BJP, however, people are protesting to demand her arrest.
