Back As MP, Rahul Gandhi To Lead Congress Response To No-Trust Motion In Lok Sabha

As per the agency, he is likely to open the debate from the Congress side in the House tomorrow.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will take part in the no-confidence motion discussion against the Modi government on Tuesday after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in the 'Modi surname' defamation case on Friday, reported news agency ANI.

As per the agency, he is likely to open the debate from the Congress side in the House tomorrow.

The debate on the no-confidence motion will take place on August 8 and 9 in the Lok Sabha and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply on August 10.

He was reinstated as the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament on Monday.

Notably, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, reacting to the apex court's decision, said on Friday, "Come what may, my duty remains the same. Protect the idea of India".

On the restoration of Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said: "Speaker took the decision today. We followed the legal process and immediately after receiving the Supreme Court's order, we restored it..."

On March 23, Rahul Gandhi faced disqualification as a member of the Lok Sabha. The action came after a court in Gujarat found him guilty in a defamation case related to his comments about the 'Modi surname.' Consequently, he was handed a two-year prison sentence leading to the expulsion of his Lok Sabha Membership under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
