Now, Viral 'Baba Ka Dhaba' Gets Listed On Zomato; Know The Full Story Of This Delhi Eatery
The food delivery platform Zomato urged users on the micro blogging site to share information on any similar outlet whom they can help in whatever way possible
Baba Ka Dhaba: In an era of social media when celebrity lives are scrutinised at one hand, here is an exemplary story about how it changed the life of an elderly couple in the national capital. An obscure ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’, located in Malviya Nagar, remained an unknown destination until the plight of the couple running the eatery was brought to notice on the social media platform by one of the users. Now, Zomato has gone ahead and listed ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ for online food delivery. The app on Wednesday updated on its official Twitter account that the team is trying to enable food deliveries from their joint.
This happened after a video, depicted the plight of the eatery owner in tears and not being unable to make ends meet, went viral. A YouTuber Gaurav Wasan, who runs his channel, Swad Official posted the 11-minute video on his account and a four-minute snippet on his Instagram account on 7 October.

The couple starts their work in the eatery joint from 6:30 AM in the morning by preparing the food by 9:30 for sale. The cost of one plate is Rs 50 which comprises dal, rice, two vegetables and pickle. Thanks to the lockdown, like all businesses even the dhabha business was badly impacted, and even after the restrictions were lifted the couple could not manage to attract customers.
In the viral video, Kanta Prasad, 80 owner of the dhabha, is seen crying as he shares with Wasan that he managed to sell food worth Rs 70 in the day. Post lockdown, Prasad and his wife Badami Devi, who have running the food joint for almost 30 years, did not find a single taker. The couple have three children, but none of them supports them.
Wasan had posted the Instagram video with an intention to crowdsource funds for the couple, and it garnered attention of more than 2 crore people while the YouTube video got more than 3 lakh views.
The video was also shared by celebrities, including actors Raveena Tandon, Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhasker, and AAP’s Somnath Bharti, who even visited the dhaba the next day.
