Atiq Ahmed Shot Dead Live: Atiq Ahmad, a gangster-turned-politician whose son Asad was slain in an encounter on Thursday, was shot dead in Prayagraj on Saturday.
Atiq was shot while being taken to a hospital in Prayagraj for medical check-up. Ashraf Ahmad, his brother, was also killed in the attack. The shooting occurred right outside the hospital. Three assailants opened fire on the duo. As further information about the event emerge, news outlet PTI claimed that two to three persons opened fire on them. Atiq and Ashraf were speaking to mediapersons at the time. The assailants were disguised as mediapersons and had a camera and a boom with them.
Atiq Ahmed's son Asad was killed in an encounter in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, a few days before.
Soon after Atiq Ahmed was killed, CM Yogi Adityanath ordered Section 144 of the CrPC to be imposed across Uttar Pradesh. Police stations across the state have been put on high alert. Cops across the state were seen conducting flag marches. Additional security personnel were deployed in sensitive areas.
Moreover, security outside offices of every political party has also been beefed up. However, according to sources, Opposition leaders, who had questioned the Asad Ahmed encounter and sough an inquiry, have been placed under house arrest.
Atiq Ahmed was charged in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, as well as the murder of Umesh Pal in February of this year. The incident's specifics are still being revealed.
Asad and Ghulam, both sought in the Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj, were murdered in an encounter with the UPSTF squad on April 13. They were carrying a Rs 5 lakh bounty on their heads, and foreign-made firearms were confiscated from them.
On the same day Asad was slain in the encounter, Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed were taken before the CJM Court in Prayagraj.
