Atiq Ahmed-Ashraf Murder: SIT Searches Prayagraj Hotel Where Shooters Stayed, Takes IDs & Entry Book

Atiq Ahmed-Ashraf Murder Case: The SIT searched the hotel where the three assailants stayed. The officials took IDs of guests and the entry book as well as the Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

The Special Investigation Team working on the murder case of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, on Saturday, searched the hotel where the three assailants stayed. An employee of the hotel told news agency PTI that the police took the IDs and the entry book of the people who stayed there between April 1 to April 15. The police are currently verifying all of the information, he added. The police have also collected the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) which will give them insight into the three alleged shooters’ day-to-day activities.

"Police have taken the IDs of all the guests who stayed in the hotel from (April) 1st to 15th," the employee told PTI.

According to ANI, the assailants allegedly stayed at Hotel Stay Inn in Prayagraj before the night of the attack. The police are combing through all the steps, to get as much information as they can.

On Thursday, the Special Investigation Team recreated the crime scene where gangsters Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead on April 15 while being taken to a hospital, when the Judicial committee constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government visited Prayagraj.

The same day, three friends of Lovelesh Tiwari were detained by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Uttar Pradesh's Banda.

"The trio were caught at Banda railway station," officials said.

The SIT team has also reached Hamirpur and Kasganj to conduct the further probe.

Meanwhile, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who has been critical of the Uttar Pradesh government over the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf during police custody, on Friday compared the shooters with Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi.

The AIMIM MP questioned why the Uttar Pradesh Police did not invoke the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against the accused in the Ahmed brothers' murder case.
