Amid Probe In Pahalgam Attack, 14 Terrorists Helping LeT, JeM, Hizbul Identified In Jammu-Kashmir
Intelligence agencies have identified 14 local terrorists affiliated with Pakistan-backed terror outfits operating in the Union Territory. The list includes individuals associated with Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Amid heightened security concerns following the attack in Pahalgam, the intelligence agencies have compiled a list of 14 local terrorists actively operating in the Union Territory. The operatives are reportedly affiliated with three major Pakistan-backed terror outfits: Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The sources have revealed the names of these individuals. Among them are Adil Rehman Dentoo (21), Asif Ahmed Sheikh (28), Ahsan Ahmed Sheikh (23), Haris Nazir (20), Aamir Nazir Wani (20), Yawar Ahmed Bhat, Asif Ahmed Khanday (24), Naseer Ahmed Wani (21), Shahid Ahmed Kutay (27), Aamir Ahmed Dar, Adnan Safi Dar, Zubair Ahmed Wani (39), Haroon Rashid Ganai (32), and Zakir Ahmed Ganie (29).
These individuals are affiliated with Pakistan-backed terror outfits including Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Region-wise, one LeT terrorist is active in Sopore, while Avantipora has one operative linked to JeM. Pulwama is witnessing heightened activity with two local terrorists, each from LeT and JeM. In Shopian, four LeT terrorists and one from Hizbul are currently active. Anantnag has two local Hizbul operatives, and Kulgam is home to one LeT terrorist. This detailed profiling is part of a larger counter-terrorism strategy aimed at dismantling the operational networks and eliminating militant threats in the region.
The identification of the terrorists has come as the security agencies have intensified efforts to dismantle the support networks facilitating cross-border terrorism. The attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 tourists were killed, has reignited concerns over the growing nexus between foreign terrorists and the local recruits.
According to media reports, the security forces have launched coordinated operations across South Kashmir, particularly in the Anantnag and Pulwama districts, where many of the listed individuals are believed to be operating. The senior officials indicated that the names are part of a larger intelligence dossier being used to pre-empt further attacks, reports news agency ANI.
According to the report, the NIA team is expected to conduct a thorough assessment of the attack site, collecting forensic evidence and helping in identifying those responsible for the attack.
