Oppn MPs Submit Motion To Impeach Allahabad HC Judge Over 'Majority's Say' Remark: Report
Opposition parties have submitted an impeachment proceedings against Allahabad High Court judge Justice Shekhar Yadav for his controversial "majority's wish" remark
Around 55 MPs from opposition parties submitted a notice in Rajya Sabha on Friday for the impeachment of Allahabad High Court judge Justice Shekhar Yadav over his 'majority's wish' remark.
"We have given a notice to the Rajya Sabha Secretary General to impeach Allahabad High Court judge, Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav," said Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal while speaking to reporters outside Parliament.
"He had given an inflammatory speech on December 9 at the High Court premises...We believe that the judge has no right to hold that post and he should be removed...We have moved a motion to remove the judge...This is not a political issue but an issue of protecting the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary," he added.

Sibal urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and leaders of the ruling party to "join us in protecting the Constitution."
He also demanded that the Supreme Court should order the removal of the judge and should not be assigned any work until a decision is taken on the motion.
A row erupted after Justice Yadav said on Sunday that the country will function according to the wishes of the majority of India.

He made the remark while addressing an event on the Constitutional Necessity of Uniform Civil Code, organised by the legal cell of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Prayagraj.
"I have no hesitation in saying that this is Hindustan, this country would function as per the wishes of the bahusankhyak living in Hindustan. This is the Law. You can't say that you are saying this being a High Court Judge," said the sitting judge in his speech.
