'All Institutions In Hands Of RSS': Rahul Gandhi Ups Ante Against Modi Govt, Targets Mayawati Over UP Polls

“We have to protect the Constitution. To save the Constitution, we have to protect our institutions,” said Gandhi.

New Delhi: Escalating his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday alleged all institutions in the country are in the hands of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

“We have to protect the Constitution. To save the Constitution, we have to protect our institutions,” said Gandhi.

“But all the institutions are in the hands of RSS,” he added at a book launch event in Delhi, ANI reported.

Taking a jibe at Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, the Congress leader further said there are politicians, who are in “pursuit of power”.

“They ponder upon attaining power throughout...I was born in centre of power but honestly, I don't have interest in it,” said Gandhi.

“Instead, I try to understand the country,” he added.

Gandhi’s remarks come a day after he categorically stated that the Opposition parties must unite to fight the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre.

The Congress leader, who made these remarks after meeting Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Sharad Yadav, said discussions are under way to determine the framework of a united front.

“Opposition parties that are against RSS and Narendra Modi should come together. Discussions are ongoing on how they should come together, what should be the framework and that has to be developed,” he said.

Continuing his outburst against the BJP, the Congress leader said: “Hatred is being spread and the country is being divided. We have to bring the nation together and once walk on the path of the brotherhood which has been a part of our history,” he said.

Gandhi further said India is in a “bad state” as “hatred” is being spread and the country is being divided.
