Air India Flight Returns To Mumbai Airport After Engine Shuts Down Mid-Air

The Air India spokesperson said that the passengers were flown to the Bengaluru destination after a change of aircraft. The incident took place on Thursday. 

New Delhi: An A320neo plane of Air India which is run by the Tata group returned to the Mumbai airport after just 27 minutes of the take-off as one of the engines shut down mid-air due to technical issues, sources told news agency PTI on Friday. 

The Air India spokesperson said that the passengers were flown to the Bengaluru destination after a change of aircraft. The incident took place on Thursday. 

The aviation regulator  Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is conducting an investigation into this incident, sources told PTI. The A320neo planes of Air India have CFM's Leap engines on them.

As per the PTI report, the pilots of the A329neo plane received a warning about exhaust gas temperatures on one of the engines just a few minutes after the aircraft’s departure from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 9:43 am. 

The pilots landed back the plane at Mumbai airport at 10:10 am after the engine got shut, said PTI’s sources.

Responding to the questions on the incident, Air India Spokesperson said, “Air India accords top priority to safety and our crew are well adept at handling these situations. Our Engineering and Maintenance teams had immediately started looking into the issue."

The spokesperson further added, “The scheduled flight had left with passengers to Bengaluru after a change of aircraft.”
