AIMIM Will Fight Gujarat Assembly Elections With ‘Full Strength’, Announces Asaduddin Owaisi

Asaduddin Owaisi informed that AIMIM was preparing for the Gujarat assembly elections since municipal polls in Ahmedabad and Surat.

New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday announced that his party will fight the assembly polls in Gujarat. He informed that AIMIM was preparing for the assembly elections since municipal polls in Ahmedabad and Surat. Addressing a press conference in Gujarat's Bhuj, Owaisi declared, "We will fight Gujarat Assembly elections with full strength. However, we have not decided on how many seats. I believe that Sabir Kabliwala (AIMIM Gujarat chief) will make the right decision in this regard", news agency ANI.

"Our candidate will also stand from Bhuj," the Hyderabad MP while emphasising that he has come to Gujarat to strengthen the party.

Gujarat will witness assembly elections later this year. The Aam Aadmi Party, following the result of the February 2021 Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) elections, has also scaled up its campaign in a bid to emerge as a formidable political force in the state.

In the 2021 SMC polls, the BJP won 93 seats and the Aam Aadmi Party won 27, while the Congress earned nil seats.

In Bhuj, the AIMIM chief also targeted the Centre over the communal clashes that ensued in Ranchi. "It's imperative for democracy to ensure that there is no violence and it's the government's duty to stop it. There was firing on people in Ranchi. This shouldn't have happened. An FIR has been filed against Nupur Sharma for such comments and the law will take its own course. We don't need her apology," he asserted.

The statement came after protests erupted in several parts of India after Friday prayers, leaving two persons dead in Jharkhand's Ranchi and a few policemen injured in stone-pelting while security forces had to resort to lathi-charge, tear gas shelling, and firing in the air at some places.

The agitations were against suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled leader Naveen Jindal for their controversial remarks regarding Prophet Mohammad.

While Nupur Sharma made comments during a TV debate, Naveen Jindal posted a controversial remark on Twitter.
