After Nivar, Another Cyclone May Hit Tamil Nadu, Puducherry On December 2 - Details Here

New Delhi: The Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Authority Friday said a low-pressure area was expected to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal and intensify further. “A low-pressure area is very likely to form over Southeast Bay of Bengal. It would concentrate into a depression during the next 24 hours and is very likely to intensify further and move westwards and reach Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts on December 2,” the authority said. This comes just a day after the cyclone Nivar, which made landfall on the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on November 26. According to the authorities, if the depression further develops into a storm, may again hit the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on December 2. The cyclone Nivar, which made landfall around midnight of November 26, took the life of three people in Tamil Nadu and one in Andhra Pradesh. The very severe cyclonic storm uprooted around 1,000 trees, destroyed hundreds of crores worth of crops in both the states, leaving the low-lying areas marooned. Meanwhile, other than Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh also witnessed heavy rains under the influence of the storm. The storm later weakened gradually after making landfall in Puducherry. According to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami, as part of the rescue operation, as many as 2.30 lakh people have been accommodated in relief camps following the cyclone Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the MHA remained in touch with Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to deal with the situation. "We are closely monitoring the situation in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the wake of Cyclone Nivar. Have spoken to CM Shri@EPSTamilNadu and CM Shri @VNarayanasami and assured all possible help from the center. NDRF teams already on the ground to help people in need," his tweet quoted. It is also worth mentioning, the state of Tamil Nadu declared a public holiday on November 26, Puducherry administration has imposed Section 144 to restrict the movement of the public across the region and has ordered shops and establishments shut from November 25 to 27, in the view of cyclone. Cyclone Nivar is the second cyclone after Amphan, which was formed over the Bay of Bengal and hit the Indian coastal states.
