AAP To Contest Gujarat 2022 Polls From All Seats, Kejriwal Inaugurates New Office In Ahmedabad

Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated a new office in Ahmedabad and announced that Aam Aadmi Party will contest Gujarat elections 2022 from all seats.

Gandhinagar: Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today announced that the party will contest all seats in the 2022 Gujarat assembly elections, news agency ANI reported. He was addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad.

"Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to contest on all seats in the 2022 Gujarat Legislative Assembly Polls," said Kejriwal.

The Delhi CM also inaugurated the new state office of AAP Gujarat on Ashram road in Ahmedabad.

"People here (Gujarat) think if electricity can be free in Delhi, why not here? Likewise, for hospitals also the condition has not improved in 70 years here. But things will change now", said AAP leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal,

This is Kejriwal's second visit to Gujarat. The Aam Aadmi Party Chief had last visited Surat in February after the party emerged as the main opposition after the civic body elections.

AAP's performance in Gujarat

The Aam Aadmi Party has been trying to make a mark in Gujarat since 2013 when the party started. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, AAP contested on all 26 constituencies and in the 2017 assembly elections, it fielded candidates on 29 out of 182 constituencies.

On both the occasions, the party failed to win a single seat.

In 2021, led by its Gujarat president Gopal Italia, AAP fielded 469 candidates for 576 seats in six municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.  The AAP had made inroads into Gujarat politics by winning 27 seats in the 120-member Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), emerging as the main opposition dethroning Congress
