5 Popular Bhog to Offer to Lord Ganesha During Ganesh Chaturthi
New Delhi: Ganesh Chaturthi is the 10-day long festival, which will fall on August 25, 2017; and will go on till September 5.
The festival is widely celebrated in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
People bring home beautifully sculpted and painted Ganesha idols every year to celebrate the festival.
For 10 days, people shower their beloved deity with flowers, prasad, bhog and sing hymns in the Lord’s praise.To please their beloved God people prepare bhog or Prasad daily.
Some popular bhog offered to Lord Ganesha during the period of these days-
- Modak: This one is of no surprise. The delicious modaks are considered to be Ganpati’s favourite sweets. Owing to the great love for modak he is also called as Modakpriya. People offer him a bhog of modak on the first day of Ganesh Chaturthi.
- Satori: Satori is a Maharashtrian sweet made of flat bread and is most loved festive recipes of Maharashtra. It is made from khoya or mawa, ghee, besan and milk.
- Puran Poli: Mahashtrians love to prepare Puran Poli for every auspicious occasion. Maharashtrian households offer bhog of Puran Poli in these 10 days to seek his blessings. It tops the list of the bhog and is a flat bread made of maida stuffed with sweet lentils and jaggery.
- Motichoor Laddoo: It is said that Lord Ganesha is fond of Motichoor ladoos and hence the same are served to him during Ganesh Chaturthi. Other melt-in-mouth ladoos are Coconut Ladoo, Til ke Ladoo, Atta Ladoo etc.
- Payasam: It is a traditional South Indian Kheer and no bhog or Prasad is complete with this India’s favourite festive treat. Rice cooked in milk along with jiggery, coconut and cardamom and can cook your deity with interesting versions of Pineapple Payasam and Carrot Payasam etc.
