His Story Of Itihaas Review: A Fearless Film That Questions History, And Does It Brilliantly

His Story Of Itihaas review: It doesn’t pretend to have all the answers, but it does something far more important: it asks the right questions.

His Story Of Itihaas review: The film poses difficult but necessary questions: Is the Swastik symbol really our own or borrowed from elsewhere? Was Akbar truly ‘great’? Did Emperor Ashoka genuinely embrace Buddhism only after the Kalinga war? Who built the Grand Trunk Road? Have we been fed a distorted version of history? And is this distortion part of a larger agenda to fill young minds with misinformation? One of the most powerful dialogues from the film sums it up: “If you want to destroy someone’s intelligence, first crush their confidence—and that’s done through education.” The film rattles you, stirs your thinking, and ignites debate. Because only when there is discussion can we even begin to decide what’s right or wrong.

His Story Of Itihaas plot

Based on the book 'Brainwashed Republic' by Neeraj Atri, the film follows a physics teacher who becomes alarmed when his daughter writes in her school exam that Hindu men oppress the women in their families. When asked where she learned that, she points to her history textbook. Shocked, the father decides to dig deeper and expose what he believes is a deliberate manipulation of facts. What unfolds is a gripping story of truth-seeking that should ideally be experienced in theatres.

How is His Story Of Itihaas?

This is an important film. While its production values may be modest, the intent is powerful—and it succeeds in achieving its purpose. The film begins at a slower pace, but gradually picks up momentum. The scenes that tackle historical narratives head-on are particularly well done and thought-provoking.

At first glance, some might question if the film is agenda-driven. But it presents arguments backed by logic, clarity, and multiple perspectives. It doesn't shout, it reasons. And in doing so, it becomes the kind of cinema that encourages you to ask your own questions.

In recent times, we've seen films like 'Chhava', which brought the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj to the forefront, and 'Kesariveer', which highlighted Hamirji Gohil. 'His Story of Itihaas' belongs in that lineage—films that aim to reclaim stories missing from our textbooks. This one insists that our history needs correction, and it makes a strong case.

Performances

Subodh Bhave is outstanding as the concerned father and teacher. His monologues are powerful and persuasive, capturing the urgency of the subject. Yogendra Tiku is equally compelling as a historian who brings authenticity and warmth to his role. Ankur Vikal and Akanksha Pandey deliver solid support, while young Kisha Arora impresses with her natural performance.

Strong direction and writing

Director and writer Manpreet Singh Dhami does an admirable job of translating a complex and sensitive subject into an accessible film. The strength of the writing is what drives the film, and one can only imagine how much more impactful it could have been with a bigger budget. Yet, even with limited resources, Dhami ensures the message resonates.

Final verdict

'His Story of Itihaas' is a must-watch—especially with family. It doesn’t pretend to have all the answers, but it does something far more important: it asks the right questions. In an era when many feel disconnected from their roots, this film encourages viewers to reconnect, re-evaluate, and rethink.
