Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong has said that India and Australia understand how important they are to each other for a shared future.

Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong on Tuesday said that both India and Australia understand each other's importance for a shared future, and added the partnership between the two democracies is for peace, prosperity and stability in the region. She said through QUAD or any other mechanisms, both countries are focused on determining work towards a shared objective.

"...We (India-Australia) share so much. We share a history. We both value our democratic traditions. We both love our sporting tradition. But I think, even more importantly, we understand how important we are to each other's future. That is a point about the bilateral relationship, that's a point about us working together in the region," she said.

"As you said, whether it is bilaterally or through the Quad or through other mechanisms, we know that this partnership is to the peace, prosperity and stability of the region. We are very focused on and determined to work with you towards that shared objective..." the Australian foreign minister added.

Notably, the foreign affairs and defence minister of Australia came to India for a 2+2 ministerial dialogue. She met EAM S Jaishankar at Hyderabad House in Delhi.

Australian Deputy PM Richard Marles and Foreign Minister Penny Wong met National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval in Delhi on Tuesday as well. The two nations discussed a range of issues, including global and regional developments as well as bilateral security and defence cooperation. Different challenges and opportunities in the domains of maritime and space, which form part of the Global Commons, were discussed, reported news agency ANI.
