Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain In Madhya Pradesh For Next 2-3 Days

Madhya Pradesh has received 28 per cent more rainfall than normal so far this season, with heavy downpours over the last few days which caused flooding in different districts.

New Delhi: The eastern part of Madhya Pradesh will see an increase in rainfall activity Friday, August 26 onwards due to the turf line and circulation over the Bay of Bengal, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Scientist SN Sahu said Tursday.

According to IMD, the rainfall activity in the state will continue for 2-3 days.  

"Due to the turf line & circulation over the Bay of Bengal, the intensity and duration of rain over the eastern part of the state will increase from tomorrow onwards and there will be heavy rain activity. It will remain for 2-3 days", he was quoted as saying by ANI. 

Madhya Pradesh has received 28 per cent more rainfall than normal so far this season. Heavy downpours over the last few days has  caused flooding in parts of Vidisha, Sagar, Bhind, Morena and Sheopur districts. Power supply has also been disrupted in various places, including the state capital Bhopal, according to a PTI report.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan conducted an aerial survey and also visited some of the flood-affected areas by boat Tursday. Relief operations are on in flood-affected areas.

Madhya Pradesh has received 928 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon season, which is 28 per cent more than normal, India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Bhopal office senior meteorologist Ved Prakash Singh told PTI.

"The rain spell is likely to last till August 31. It is going to cover central and eastern Madhya Pradesh. It might be less effective in Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior and Chambal divisions of the state,” he said.

In the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, Sidhi city and the Churhat area of the district received 108.5 and 105 mm rainfall, respectively. Mada in Singrauli district recorded 82.6 mm of rain and Chandiya in Umaria district received 61.2 mm downpour, as per the IMD data.
