Devendra Fadnavis Dares Maharashtra Govt To Ban Raza Academy In Wake Of Amravati Violence

Fadnavis attacked Congress and categorically asked whether they would impose a ban on the organisation following violence that broke out in Amravati district of Maharashtra.

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis has dared the Maha Vikas Aghadi government to ban the Raza Academy in the state, reported ANI.

"Why does the Raza Academy attack the police only under the Congress government? Before this, the riots in Mumbai and attacks on the police were orchestrated by the organisation. Everybody knows who is behind Raza Academy,” said Fadnavis.

Fadnavis attacked Congress and categorically asked whether they would impose a ban on the organisation following violence that broke out in the Amravati district of Maharashtra. "I demand the imposition of a ban on Raza Academy. Would Congress do it?” he asked.

BJP MLA Nitesh Rane had accused Raza Academy of the violence that had broken out in some parts of Maharashtra.

"You showed pics of Shelar. Did you show that of Chief Minister? No. Congress' ministers? No. Even if, for the sake of it, I agree that Raza Academy is BJP's B team, I demand ban on it. Will you do it? Congress doesn't have courage as everyone knows whose child Raza Academy is," said Fadnavis.

Nationalist Congress Party leader Nawab Malik had alleged that BJP leader Ashish Shelar had links with the Raza Academy.

After violence took place in Tripura’s Panisagar, protests were held in several districts of Maharashtra. Incidents of stone-pelting were reported during the same time from Nanded, Malegaon, and Amravati.

In reaction to the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad Bajrang Dal along with other right-wing outfits organised a bandh in Amravati on November 13 and gathered for the protest at the Rajkamal Chowk. The mob then pelted stones on shops, damaged properties, and went on a rampage in the area. The police resorted to lathi-charge and teargas shells. The police arrested BJP leader and former Maharashtra Minister Dr. Anil Bonde, Amravati Mayor Chetan Gawande, BJP Amravati Rural president Nivedita Chaudhari, and Amravati Municipal Corporation leader of house Tushar Bharatiya.
