Delhi Riots: Sitaram Yechury, Yogendra Yadav, Economist Jayati Ghosh Named As Co-Conspirators In Supplementary Chargesheet

Unprecedented riots ripped across North-East Delhi on February 24 after clashes between CAA supporters and protesters spiralled out of control leaving at least 53 people dead and around 200 injured.

New Delhi: In the Delhi riots case, Police has named some prominent personalities including CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav, economist Jayati Ghosh and Delhi University professor Apoorvanand in a supplementary charge sheet. They have been accused of “provoking and mobilising” anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) protesters. Also Read: Sonia Gandhi Flies To US For Treatment With Rahul Gandhi; Duo To Miss First Part Of Parliament Session As per news agency PTI, some of those named have also been charged with - based on the statements of three students already arrested in the case - asking the protesters to go to ¨any extreme¨, spreading “discontent” in the community by calling CAA/NRC anti-Muslim, and organising demonstrations to “malign the image of the Government of India”. The  three students whose statements have been recorded are JNU students Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal, and Gulfisha Fathima of Jamia Milia Islamia . ¨I notice that the passing reference to me does not even contain one sentence from my speech. I find it surprising that the Delhi Police has made no effort to see the recording of my speeches all of which are in the public domain,” Yogendra Yadav was quoted as saying by PTI. Yechury lashed out at the central government after being named in the case. "Delhi Police is under the Centre and Home Ministry. Its illegitimate, illegal actions are a direct outcome of the politics of BJP's top leadership. They are scared of legitimate peaceful protests by mainstream political parties and are misusing state power to target the opposition."
