The Union government on Friday said the isolation facility is not mandatory for the international travellers arriving from at-risk countries with effect from January 22.
The travellers from at-risk countries will have to submit their samples for post-arrival COVID-19 test at the point of arrival, which will be self-paid.
“Such travellers will be required to wait for their test results at the arrival airport before leaving or taking a connecting flight,” said the Union Health Ministry in its guidelines for international arrivals.
“If tested negative, they will follow home quarantine for seven days and shall undertake RT-PCR test on the eighth day of arrival in India,” the ministry added.
The Health Ministry said the travellers shall also be required to upload the results of repeat RT-PCR test for COVID-19 on the eighth day on the Air Suvidha portal, which will be monitored by the respective states and Union Territories.
“However, if such travellers are tested positive, their samples should be further sent for genomic testing at INSACOG laboratory network,” said the Health Ministry.
“They shall be treated/isolated as per laid down standard protocol,” the ministry added.
The Health Ministry said the contacts of such positive case should be kept under home quarantine monitored strictly by the concerned state government as per laid down protocol.
Meanwhile, with a decline in the daily COVID-19 cases, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Friday allowed private offices to function with 50 per cent staff but maintained that weekend curfew and other restrictions, including odd-even rule for opening shops in city markets will continue, an order said.
Delhi on Friday logged 10,756 COVID cases in a single day and 38 more fatalities due to the infection, while the positivity rate declined to 18.04 per cent. As many as 434 people have succumbed to the disease so far in January. Of the 61,954 active COVID cases in Delhi, 48,356 are recovering in home isolation.
At the same time, Mumbai reported 5,008 new coronavirus cases, 700 less than the previous day, and 12 fresh fatalities linked to the infection, the city civic body said.
With this, the city's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,28,715, while the death toll jumped to 16,512, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) bulletin said.
This was the third day in a row when daily COVID-19 cases have dropped in the financial capital.
With 12,913 more patients discharged during the day, the number of recovered cases jumped to 9,95,338, said the bulletin.
Mumbai's coronavirus recovery rate has increased to 97 per cent, while the case doubling rate has improved to 72 days, the BMC said.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has decided to lift the weekend curfew imposed in view of the spike in coronavirus infections after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai held a meeting with experts, Ministers, and officials.
However, the night curfew between 10 PM to 5 AM every day, and all other COVID curbs including 50 per cent capacity rules in cinema halls, pubs, clubs, restaurants, bars, hotels, and eating places will continue.
