Pakistan PM Imran Khan Tests Negative For Covid-19, Death Toll Crosses 209

The PM had taken the test after meeting Faisal Edhi, son of late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, who was tested positive for Covid-19.

New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has tested negative after he underwent a test for Covid-19 following his meeting with a civil society activist, who had tested positive. The development was confirmed by the government's chief spokesperson Firdous Ashiq Awan who tweeted on Wednesday, according to PTI report. The spokesperson said the family of the Prime Minister had already tested negative. The Prime Minister’s samples were collected by a team of doctors from the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital collected. Sultan, who is also Khan's personal physician and focal person on Covid-19 had confirmed on Tuesday that the PM, who is 67 years old, will undergo a test after he met Faisal Edhi, son of late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi and chairman of the Edhi Foundation, who was tested positive for Covid-19. The social activist started showing symptoms last week, soon after meeting Khan in Islamabad on April 15 and his symptoms lasted for four days before subsiding, according to Edhi’s son Saad. Khan is expected to participate in an event on Thursday to collect donations to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Pakistan has crossed the 10,000-mark. A total of 17 more people have died in Pakistan from the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 209, according to PTI. The number of coronavirus cases has risen to 10,072, according to officials. Pakistan's Punjab province has reported 4,331 cases, Sindh has 3,373, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 1,345, Balochistan 495, Gilgit-Baltistan 283, Islamabad 194 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 51 patients. So far, 118,020 tests have been done nationwide, including 5,647 in the last 24 hours. A total of 2,156 patients have recovered.
