Chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi Issues Fatwa Banning Funeral Prayers For Terrorists In India
Chief Imam Ilyasi issued a fatwa forbidding Indian imams from leading funeral prayers for terrorists. This was endorsed by Sufi leader Warsi.

In a significant religious and political statement, the Chief Imam of the All India Imam Organization, Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, has issued a fatwa declaring that "No imam in India should lead the funeral prayers of any terrorist killed in the country." This move is being seen as a firm stance against terrorism from one of India’s most prominent Islamic clerics.
Reacting strongly to the fatwa, Kashish Warsi, the National President of the Indian Sufi Foundation, endorsed the decision and emphasized the need for unity in condemning terrorism irrespective of religious affiliations.
Fatwa Backed By Other Imams
He further elaborated in Hindi, expressing disappointment at countries that call themselves Islamic but fail to take similar actions. He said: "A terrorist has no religion. And if Maulana Ilyasi has issued this fatwa and sent it to Pakistan, then I would say — those who call themselves an Islamic country, who claim to be religious and say they are Islamic, yet cannot issue such fatwas — it is truly unfortunate. They are defaming Islam. Islam is a religion of sacrifice, and the kind of sacrifice given in Karbala. These are the people who only support tyrants. These are the ones who martyred Maula-e-Kainat (Hazrat Ali), who martyred Imam Hasan, who martyred Imam Hussain. These are those people. From the Sufi community, and on behalf of the Indian Sufi Foundation, I declare a social boycott of such individuals. These are those people."
In his Hindi statement, Warsi emphasized that terrorism should never be linked to any faith and strongly criticized those who fail to condemn it. He said such individuals are harming the image of Islam, which is a religion of sacrifice and peace. He called for a social boycott of those who support terrorism or attempt to defame Islam by their actions.
Warsi also urged all religious leaders to speak out against terrorism, no matter what faith the perpetrators claim to follow. He appealed to the Muslim community to stay alert and socially isolate anyone who tries to malign Islam or conspire against the country.
