Breaking News HIGHLIGHTS: Hello and welcome to the ABP News LIVE Blog. Follow this space to get the latest developments and breaking News from India, including, PM Narendra Modi's visit to Shimla, the controversial Gyanvapi mosque case, Ukraine war, Sidhu Moose Wala murder case and bypolls to three seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the 'Garib Kalyan Sammelan' in Shimla, marking the completion of eight years of his government. He will directly interact with the beneficiaries of different schemes.

"The programme conceptualises elected public representatives across the country directly interacting with the public in an endeavour to get feedback about the various welfare programmes being run by the government," the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement.

On the other hand, bypolls for three Assembly seats in as many states are being held, with the focus being on Champawat in Uttarakhand from where Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is contesting to enter the Legislative Assembly. Pushkar Singh Dhami needs to win the bypoll to continue as CM after he lost from Khatima in the Uttarakhand Assembly polls in February.

The other two constituencies where the bye-elections are being held are Brajrajnagar in Odisha and Thrikkakara in Kerala. Counting of votes will be held on June 3, the EC said in a statement.

The Brajrajnagar constituency is set to witness a triangular contest among the ruling BJD, the opposition BJP and the Congress. The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of BJD MLA Kishore Mohanty in December last year.

The Thrikkakara bypoll will be a popularity test for Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan as they both hail from the same district. Congress veteran PT Thomas's death in December last year necessitated the fresh poll.

Congress fielded his widow Uma Thomas, while the CPI-M has given a ticket to cardiologist Joe Joseph. The BJP went for veteran leader AN Radhakrishnan.

However, all eyes will be on the bypoll for the Champawat assembly seat in Uttarakhand as CM Dhami's continuance in office depends on its result.

Dhami must win from Champawat to make it to the state assembly as an MLA - a constitutional requirement for him to remain a CM. The seat was won by BJP's Kailash Gehtori in the Assembly polls.

Breaking News LIVE: Over 200 Trees Uprooted In MCD Areas In Monday's Thunderstorm

Over 200 trees were uprooted in MCD areas during Monday's fierce thunderstorm and 750 workers were deployed to remove debris from roads that were blocked after trees were uprooted, civic officials said on Tuesday.

According to data provided by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, around 215 trees were uprooted across the city, excluding the Lutyens' Delhi area, due to the thunderstorm on Monday evening.

The trees and their branches fell on the roads leading to traffic jams on Monday evening and also on Tuesday morning.

Delhi witnessed the first storm of "severe" intensity since 2018 on Monday throwing traffic out of gear within minutes as the uprooted trees blocked roads and also damaged several vehicles. (PTI)
