Presidential Election 2022: MPs, MLAs To Vote To Elect 15th President
Voting will be held to elect the 15th President of the country. About 4,800 MPs and MLAs in Parliament and all state legislatures will use their votes to elect a new president. The voting will be held tomorrow from 10 am to 5 pm. In this election, NDA's presidential candidate is Draupadi Murmu, while the opposition parties' candidate is Yashwant Sinha. The counting of votes will take place on July 21 and the swearing-in ceremony of the new President will take place on July 25. The term of the current President Ram Nath Kovind is going to end on July 24.
According to the Election Commission, this time the value of an MP's vote is 700. The value of each MLA's vote is different in different states. For example, the vote value of each MLA in Uttar Pradesh is 208, followed by Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu at 176. Whereas in Sikkim the value of vote per MLA is 7, while in Nagaland it is 9 and in Mizoram, it is 8.
Monsoon Session Of Parliament To Commence
The monsoon session of Parliament is going to start on Monday, July 18 and will continue till August 12. In the all-party meeting convened by the government on Sunday, July 17, before the monsoon session, the opposition parties demanded discussion with the government on about 25 issues.
A day before the commencement of the monsoon session of Parliament, the government on Sunday said that various departments have indicated 32 bills for presentation in two houses, of which 14 are ready, news agency PTI reported. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, after an all-party meeting, said that out of 32, some have already been discussed by standing committees of the Parliament.
"Thirty two bills have been indicated by various departments for being presented in this session of Parliament, of which 14 bills are ready, but we will not pass the bills without discussion," PTI quoted Joshi as saying.
He said that the government had invited 45 parties to the all-party meet and 36 of them attended it.
