The World Is Welcoming New Year 2023:
Every year on January 1, people celebrate New Year's Day. People all around the world celebrate the event with their loved ones and friends, wishing them luck and the best for the new year. People decorate their homes, assemble with friends and family, cook for them, and even organise outings on this day.
January 1 was formally recognised as the start of a new year in 45 BCE. Prior to that, the Roman calendar, which began in March, had 355 days. When Julius Caesar took over as dictator of Rome, he altered the calendar. He made January 1 the first day of the year in part to honour Janus, the Roman deity of beginnings, whose two faces gave him the capacity to see both the past and the future.
However, it was not extensively adopted in Europe until the middle of the 16th century CE. With the growth of Christianity, December 25—the day of Jesus' birth—became acceptable, while January 1—the start of the new year—became heathen. It wasn't widely accepted until Pope Gregory changed the Julian calendar and declared January 1 to be the first day of the year.
