Siddaramaiah To Take Oath As Karnataka CM Today
Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar will take oath as Karnataka Chief Minister and Deputy CM respectively on Saturday, with the platform set to be a marker of Opposition unity against BJP as a host of leaders will descend on the southern state. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 12.30 pm at the Kanteerava Stadium Bengaluru.
This will be Siddaramaiah's second stint in the top post after he led a successful five-year term as Chief Minister of the Congress government between 2013-18.
On Friday, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar thrashed out the composition of the Cabinet with the Congress leadership in Delhi and are learnt to have shortlisted some names of ministers and their portfolios. The sanctioned strength of the Karnataka Cabinet is 34.
Few leaders like G Parameshwara and groups like Dalit and Lingayats have openly expressed their displeasure at being denied the Deputy CM chair.
Quad Summit To Be Held On The Sidelines Of G7 On May 20
Sources have reported that a gathering of Quad nations is scheduled in Hiroshima this Saturday. The discussion agenda is expected to focus on matters relevant to the Indo-Pacific Partnership, Firstpost reported.
During the meeting, various topics such as IPMDA, Quad Satellite Data Portal, Q-CHAMP, Quad Partnership on HADR, and Quad Fellowship will be brought up for discussion.
The planned Quad meeting in Sydney, Australia was called off as a result of the US President Joe Biden’s inability to participate due to economic problems in the United States.
According to News 18, Vinay Kwatra, the Foreign Secretary, announced that preparations are underway to hold a meeting of the leaders of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) in Japan at the same time as the G7 Summit.
Quad Leaders Pledge To Uphold Peace In Indo-Pacific Region
The third in-person Quad Summit held Saturday in the historic city of Hiroshima, Japan, laid out an expansive agenda in a strong signal to China but again not explicitly name the country in the leaders' joint statement. All four leaders of the member countries vowed to take it to the next level from setting up an undersea cable, to critical supply chains and to countering terrorism.
The Quad Summit, which was earlier scheduled to take place in Australia, was held on the margins of the G7 meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced at the meeting that India will host the next in-person Quad Summit in 2024. The Summit venue changed to Japan due to US President Joe Biden’s change of itinerary as he had to be back home to attend debt crisis talks. Read Full Report Here.
