AIADMK To Hold Hunger Strike Over Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy Today

Tamil Nadu's main opposition party AIADMK on Wednesday stated that it would hold a hunger strike on June 27, demanding a CBI probe into the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy.

AIADMK president Edappadi K Palaniswami asserted that his party's protests would continue till justice is served. He further said that the fast is to condemn the denial of permission to raise the issue in the assembly and to demand a CBI investigation.

The Leader of the Opposition, in a post on X said, that the hunger strike at Rajarathinam stadium would be led by him, and his party legislators would also take part.

He further said that denying the Opposition a debate over the hooch tragedy, and evicting and suspending AIADMK's MLAs goes against democracy.

The former chief minister also condemned what he described as the diversionary politics of the DMK government, which it is allegedly indulging in rather than taking action, PTI reported.

This comes as AIADMK legislators, including Palaniswami, were suspended from the ongoing assembly session on Wednesday for disrupting the house proceedings.
