The meeting comes a week after PM Modi earlier this week chaired a three-and-half-hour-long meeting with 14 political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir. Durring the meeting, the Prime Minister heard out suggestions and inputs from all participants. He expressed happiness that all participants shared their honest views. It was an open discussion that revolved around building a better future for Kashmir.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was also present at the meeting, said that discussion on Jammu and Kashmir was conducted in a very cordial environment.

It is to be noted that the meeting was first between the Centre and J&K political leadersafter since the central government abrogated Article 370 withdrawing J&K’s special status and bifurcating the erstwhile state into two union territories on August 5, 2019.

The meeting took place a day after the Election Commission held virtual discussions with its representatives in Jammu and Kashmir and the Deputy Commissioners regarding the delimitation of the 90 Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory.
