2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift Spied Undisguised

Reworked front section looks sharp. Expect it to be launched in August 2018

2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift Spied Undisguised

The upcoming 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has been spied undisguised for the first time. The first-gen Ciaz was launched on 6 October 2014, and the facelift will be introduced after nearly four years. The updated sedan will go up against prime players in the mid-size sedan segment such as the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the recently launched Toyota Yaris.

The 2018 Ciaz was spied at the automaker’s plant, indicating that Maruti has started manufacturing the refreshed model. Expect the carmaker to start accepting pre-launch bookings for the Ciaz facelift very soon. The 2018 Ciaz is expected to be priced in the same range as the outgoing model. Currently, its prices range from Rs 7.83 lakh to Rs 11.51 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

While the pre-facelift model sold in China and India were identical, the India-spec facelift looks significantly different than its Chinese counterpart. It features a redesigned front bumper with a sleeker and relatively elongated grille, which is now closely flanked by the updated smoked headlamps. We expect the Ciaz to get LED headlamps and tail lamps in the top variant/s this time, with halogen units being offered as standard from the base Delta variant. Maruti could even offer LED daytime running lights this time around. The sedan will also get a new set of alloy wheels and the rear bumper seems to have received subtle changes as well. The Ciaz’s cabin is likely to remain unchanged and will be offered in the existing black-and-beige theme.

As is the case with facelifts, the updated Ciaz is expected to come with a few additional features such as cruise control, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlamps. It remains to be seen whether Maruti Suzuki decides to offer a sunroof with this update since the City and the Verna offer the same. However, according to the spy shots, which we believe could be of the top-spec Alpha variant, the Ciaz is unlikely to feature a sunroof.

The biggest change, however, will be reserved for what’s underneath the bonnet. The 2018 Ciaz will get a new 1.5-litre petrol engine with Suzuki’s mild-hybrid SHVS tech. This engine also powers the Indonesia-spec second-gen Ertiga, where it puts out 104.7PS and 138Nm. These figures are better than what the outgoing 1.4-litre petrol engine (92.4PS/130Nm) has to offer. The 1.3-litre Fiat-borrowed diesel engine (90PS/200Nm) is likely to be carried forward and it is already on offer with SHVS. Read in detail here: Maruti Suzuki Ciaz 2018: What We Know So Far
