World Environmental Health Day 2022: Theme, History, Significance, And All You Need To Know

The primary goal of commemorating this day across the world is to raise people's attention to their own well-being and health.

New Delhi: Every year on September 26, the International Federation of Environmental Health observes World Environmental Health Day. This day is intended to raise awareness about environmental health and the steps that must be taken to enhance it. We are all aware of the frequent natural disasters that the world is facing today due to climate changes, and also the increase in global warming which has resulted in the melting of the polar ice caps, thereby raising the sea level. The day is especially significant for India, which is supposed to have not done quite well in the global environmental health index.

World Environmental Health Day 2022: A brief history

On September 26, 2011, the International Federation of Environmental Health established World Environmental Health Day during a conference in Indonesia. The IFEH was founded in 1986 and has its offices in London. It has 44 member countries and was founded to promote awareness about the health of the environment.

The primary goal of commemorating this day across the world is to raise people's attention to their own well-being and health. IFEH works for environmental and health preservation and is devoted to these causes. IFEH is dedicated to the sharing of scientific and technological research. The majority of IFEH's activity is scientific and technical in nature.

World Environmental Health Day 2022: Significance

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), better environments can indeed reduce the global burden of diseases. Clean air, sanitation, hygiene, a stable climate, appropriate water, radiation protection, chemical safety, healthy and safe workplaces, good agricultural methods, and a conserved nature are all needed for a healthy environment. World Environmental Health Day allows people all across the world to reflect on environmental health challenges and potential solutions.

To commemorate World Environmental Health Day, IFEH organises a number of events in collaboration with other national organisations. The conference and workshop on environmental concerns and strategies to protect our environment might be held in colleges and institutions. This way, we may educate the general public about environmental concerns through awareness activities such as theatre, and we may hold health checkup camps, among other things.

World Environmental Health Day 2022: Theme 2022

The theme of this day for the year 2022 is “Strengthening Environmental Health Systems for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals”.
