‘What is Myositis’ Among Most Searched Google Queries After Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Diagnosis

New Delhi: Samantha Ruth Prabhu was diagnosed with Myositis, an autoimmune condition in the month of October. Since she had revealed this through one of her Instagram posts, the internet went into a frenzy searching for what the disease was all about. She has been battling this condition since October and surprisingly, the search saw such a huge spike post her revelation, that the query featured in the top 10 ‘what is’ list of Google.
The 2022 Year in Search — Themes and Insights report, which highlights the year's trending topics, was issued by Google on Wednesday. The list of "What is" questions included items like the top ten persons, movies, foods, and news events, and the tenth most popular question on the list was "What is myositis."

In October, Samantha shared a picture along with the post. Posting a hand-heart picture, the South superstar wrote, "It is this love and connection that I share with all of you, that gives me the strength to deal with the seemingly unending challenges that life throws at me."
Talking about her health condition, she further continued, "A few months back I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Myositis. I was hoping to share this after it had gone into remission. But it is taking a little longer than I hoped. I am slowly realising that we don't always need to put up a strong front. Accepting this vulnerability is something that I am still struggling with."
Sharing an update on her health she had written, "The doctors are confident that I will make a complete recovery very soon. I have had good days and bad days…. physically and emotionally…. and even when it feels like I can’t handle one more day of this, somehow that moment passes. I guess it can only mean that I am one more day closer to recovery. "
She concluded her post on a hopeful note by writing. "This too shall pass."
What Is Myositis?
Myositis is a rare disease that involves inflammation of the muscles. This can be present with a variety of symptoms such as skin involvement (i.e., rashes), muscle weakness, and other organ involvement. In addition to this, Systemic symptoms such as weight loss, fatigue, and low fever can also be present.
Effects Of Myositis In The Human Body:
1. The muscles of the shoulders, hips, and thighs are impacted by myositis. The skin, lungs, or heart are just a few examples of additional body regions where the discomfort may radiate.
2. Myositis can also impair fundamental processes like breathing and swallowing by damaging the muscles involved in these processes.
3. Patients who are suffering from it may trip and lose their balance due to the weakening and fatigue of their muscles.
4. Another typical symptom of myositis is puffiness and discolouration around the eyes.
5. Weak and fatigued muscles can make it difficult to perform daily activities like combing your hair, using stairs, and getting in and out of vehicles.
