G20: Delhi's Waste-To-Art Park Opens Today — Attractions, Timings, Address. Details Inside

The park, located on Kautilya Marg, will feature 19 sculptures representing the national birds and animals of the G20 member nations.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is set to inaugurate the G20 Park in Chanakyapuri today, an artistic endeavour that aligns with the upcoming G20 Summit's theme of using waste materials to create art. The park, located on Kautilya Marg, will feature 19 sculptures representing the national birds and animals of the G20 member nations.

The Lalit Kala Akademi group of artists commenced their work on these sculptures in Garhi village back in April, completing the impressive creations by July, according to an NDMC official. Since July, the park has been undergoing landscaping renovations in preparation for its grand opening.

"The park will be inaugurated on Monday. The sculptures have been specially curated by artists to symbolise sustainability through representations from each of the G20 nations," an NDMC official was quoted as saying by Times Now.

The concept for the G20 Park in New Delhi emerged in January, with the council aiming to convey the message of "togetherness on the path of development." The park's theme, "One Earth, One Family, One Future" (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam), underscores the importance of unity and environmental consciousness.

V Nagdas, Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi, noted, "The pieces for the G20 park have been conceptualised, designed, and curated by a team of renowned artists who have earlier worked on waste-to-art projects. Each sculpture has been handcrafted and is a testimony to the fact that waste can be turned into wonderful objects," he told Hindustan Times.

Selfie points have also been thoughtfully incorporated into the park's design. To enhance visitors' understanding, each sculpture is accompanied by a plaque providing information about the bird or animal, its home nation, the artist responsible for its creation, and other relevant details. Notably, the artists sourced their materials from NDMC warehouses, creatively repurposing items such as iron bars, auto parts, metal plates, wire mesh, and various other discarded materials, the report said.
