New Delhi: Navratri holds a lot of significance for devotees of Goddess Durga. It’s one of the most popular festivals celebrated across the country where devotees worship the nine forms of Goddess Shakti for nine consecutive days. Besides worshipping nine forms of Durga, a lot of devotees keep fast on these days to seek blessings from ‘Mahamaya’.

People perform special Puja and various rituals on all these days, but Ashtami and Mahanavami, the eighth and the ninth day of Navratri are considered to be most auspicious.

On the eighth day, devotees worship Mahadurga who is said to bestow wealth and an opulent lifestyle on her devotees. The Mahagauri manifestation of Goddess Durga symbolises purity. On Mahanavami, Goddess Siddhidatri is worshipped. According to Drikpanchang, Hindu texts suggest that one girl on each day of Navratri should be worshipped as a dedication to each form of Durga. However, people prefer to perform the ritual on Ashtami Puja day or Navami Puja day. 

A lot of people rather than observing Navratri fast for nine consecutive days, try to fast on the first day of Navratri and the second fasting usually being observed either on Saptami or Ashtami. It also depends on when the Navratri tradition culminates on Maha Ashtami or Maha Navami day. The second fasting is usually done one day before of last worshipping day.

Ashtami and Mahanavami of Navratri 2022 Dates & Mahurat

This year, Ashtami falls on Monday, October 3. Ashtami Tithi began at 06:47 pm on October 02 and will end at 04:37 pm on October 3, according to Drik Panchang. The Brahma Muhurta will last from 04:38 am to 05:26 am and Abhijit Muhurat from 11:46 am to 12:34 pm.

Maha Navami falls on Tuesday, October 4. Drik Panchang says that the Navami Tithi will begin at 04:37 pm on October 03 and end at 02:20 pm on October 4. Additionally, the Brahma Muhurta will start at 04:38 am and end at 05:27 am, and the Abhijit Muhurat will last from 11:46 am to 12:33 pm.

Ashwina Navratri Parana: The Parana time for Navratri, which is the auspicious mahurat of breaking the Navratri fasts - lasting for nine days, falls on the day of Maha Navami celebrations. This year, the Parana time will be after 02:20 pm on October 4, 2022, as per Drik Panchang.
