History of National Mango Day

Mango has an unbroken association with the folk tales and religious ceremonies of India. The mango orchard was given as a gift to Buddha. The scientific word Mengifera is derived from the Sanskrit word Manjari. It means flowers growing in small bunches. This indicates the Indian roots of the fruit.

Mango is a major source of vitamins A, C and D. The fruit can be cooked and eaten. It is also used in pickles. It is called the national fruit of India. Many varieties of mangoes are found in India according to size, color.

Japanese Miyazaki is one of the most expensive mangoes in the world. Bangladesh declared the mango tree as its national tree in 2019.
