Chhath Puja Nahay Khay Date: October 28, 2022

This year, Chhath Puja will be celebrated on October 30, but the festival is a four-day long puja that begins with the tradition of Nahay Khay.

Chhath will begin with bathing on the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, i.e. October 28th, 2022, and will end with offering Arghya to the rising Sun on the day of Saptami Tithi, i.e. October 31st, 2022.

Women observe a Nirjala fast during this great religious festival to wish their children happiness, long life, and a bright future.

What Is The Tradition Of Nahat Khay During Chhath Puja?

The bathing tradition is observed on the fourth day of Diwali, which is the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi in the Kartik month. Some special customs must be followed on this day. On Nahay Khay, the house is cleaned and purified. Following that, Chhathvati (the fast observer) begins her fast by eating only vegetarian food and taking a bath.

What Is The Significance Of Kaddu Bhat In Nahay Khay?

Taking a bath after eating is referred to as Nahay Khay. As prasad, the fasting person consumes rice, channa dal, and pumpkin (Lauki or Gheya) made of raw rice after bathing in a river or pond.

This food is revered for its holiness and purity. One salty meal is consumed on this day. Bathing is associated with purity. Devotees follow the Chhath fast by becoming satvik and pure.

On this day, a special recipe known as Lauki is prepared and offered to Surya bhagwan, making Khay Chhath Nahay Puja also known as Lauki Bhat. Nahay Khay or Lauki Bhat is the first day of the four-day Chhat pooja.

What Are The Niyams Of Nahay Khay:

Because purity is especially important in this festival, the fast should thoroughly clean the entire house on the day of bathing. Devotees are also required by law to bathe in the holy river or pond.

On this day, fasting people eat only once. The salt-rich food for the first day is prepared with cleanliness and purity. When cooking, avoid using mixed ingredients.

Those who do not fast at home during the four days of Chhath must also eat satvik food. Meat and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited.
